Orpheus

Orpheus was a secretive cold war project to test the theory that the seismic signal from an underground nuclear explosion could be greatly reduced by carrying out the explosion in a large cavity. The experiments at the Greenside Mine in Cumbria were carried out by the Atomic Weapons Research Establishment of the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority from 1959 to 1960. The research for the project has included several field trips to Greenside Mine as well as the National Archives at Kew. The zine blends historic text and photography with contemporary images made on my research trips. A5, 36 pages, 19 images, tipped in blueprint. Riso printed, stab bound with waxed gold thread.
