The Stockport Collection:Portrait of a Community 1976-1977

A hardcover 19.5x25cm 116 page book of images made during three weekend visits to a market in Stockport, England. The publication includes an introduction, a foreword by journalist/author Paul Morley, and contributions from Stockport residents, past and present. Designed by Robert Shaw, The negatives of eight rolls of film exposed in Stockport were stored in 1977, forgotten and eventually re-discovered in mid-2020. The images prompted significant and increasing social media interest - particularly with identities and personal memories. In January 2021 The Guardian published a significant spread, leading to a global response prompting the publication of the first edition. This was followed in April 2022 by a very popular solo exhibition in Stockport where the first edition sold out. Since July 2021, forty plus images are on permanent exhibition in the Stockport Museum. Ongoing public demand led to the publication of the second edition in July 2022, revised with more identities and memories. The second edition is available to order via all bookstores.
