Before 2015, I had driven past places such as these in the UK and Western Europe on the way to a location and although visually interesting, they were nothing more than that to me. But here, 13 years later, on the road in Europe, driving towards and looking for sites of mass murder, ditches in the side of the roads where people had been shot and their bodies dumped, fields containing mass graves, and forests where massacres took place, these patches of leisure, took on a new significance for me.
