Jessica Hays is an award-winning photographer based in Montana and Chicago. rounded in the American west, her work explores the long lasting effects of the land on human psyche from trauma to restoration. Hays works in a variety of processes including installation based exhibitions, handmade books, video, and alternative process. Her work is shown internationally, has received numerous awards, and is held in public and private collections in North America, South America, and Europe. She has worked with magazines and textbooks such as Alaska Humanities and Explore big sky among others. Her monograph, The Sun Sets Midafternoon, was released in 2026. Hays earned her MFA in Photography from Columbia College, a BA in Film and Photography, and a BA in Environmental Studies at Montana State University.
