November 2025 20.5×28cm 144 Pagine Sovracoperta ISBN 978-88-94895-87-2 Diatomaceous earth Is a statement, a promise of kinship. From the Land of Fires* to the Land of Diatoms, the project explore contact and proximity zones that bind the author to one of the Earth's companion species. The diatom, a microscopic alga foundational to much of life on Earth, emerges as a guiding figuration for thinking with alternative worlds beyond global warming and the sixth mass extinction. The photographs, produced between 2023 and 2024, primarily at the Anton Dohrn Zoological Station in Naples and also within other epistemic spaces such as museums and schools, are interwoven with materials from the artist’s family archive and with situated landscapes. These visual constellations engage in a critical dialogue with scientific texts on the biology of diatoms, foregrounding relational, embodied, and more-than-human forms of knowledge. The book opens with a contribution by eco/cyborg/transfeminist researcher Angela Balzano. *The land between Naples and Caserta where the author was born, a sacrifice zone constantly exposed to invisible chemical contaminations. “From the Land of Fire to the Land of Diatoms” is a shift which should be understood as an affirmative response.
