Smog Press is pleased to present ‘so many beautiful reasons,’ the first monograph from Baltimore-based photographer Kyle Myles. During the spring of 2022, Myles started photographing his mother’s vegetable garden at her home in Southern Maryland. The resulting photographs weave compositions of growth, decay, and new beginnings amidst her cultivation of the land. Myles’s camera moves through a personal Eden from a vantage point of the flora that inhabits it. Including a short story written by Joseph Grantham, ‘so many beautiful reasons’ is an ode to the garden and the gardener with love and adoration. “I started photographing my mom’s garden as a part of something larger, but the more time I spent there, the more it felt like its own world. A world of her creation that’s always evolving, with what feels like limitless potential.” - Kyle Myles - Kyle Myles is a photographer living and working in Baltimore, MD. His work has been featured in publications such as Booooooom, Washington Post and The New York Times. In 2020 he established Baltimore Photo Space, a photobook store and gallery focused on small and independent publishers. Joseph Grantham is the author of Tom Sawyer (CCM Press, 2018) and Raking Leaves (Holler Presents, 2019).
