Icebreaker

In the winter of 2002 I was commissioned by the German magazine 'Mare' to spend ten days aboard the Finnish icebreakers 'Kontio' and 'Fennica'. These huge and powerful ships assist international shipping to reach ports in the northern section of the Bay of Bothnia, across seas which are often frozen for six months of the year.
