Ambient Pressure - by Rebecca Najdowski - draws attention to the ways that photography has literally and conceptually ‘framed’ nature. Drawing on Najdowski’s large archive of images – where negatives and prints are manipulated, cut, burned, folded, obstructed, or physically modified – the photographs are accompanied by text extracts from Tom Comitta’s novel The Nature Book. In Ambient Pressure, previously straightforward landscape imagery is complicated, added to, erased and, in doing so, Najdowski focuses on photographic conditions that objectify and distance nature from our human experience.
