A Dead Tree in Our Yard, A Vibrant One on the Highway is a momentary recording of contemporary living. Fragmented and powered by proximity and divergence, this ephemeral collage attempts to form an impossible present. Because time is experienced both simultaneously on a macro global scale, accelerated and diffused through interwoven algorithmic disjointed means, as well as on a local interpersonal level where moments are held long past their cycle, this work tries to overlay this experiential contradiction in ways that are as flawed as the ways we understand them. —— Brandon Ichiro Tani is an interdisciplinary artist based in San Diego, California. His works with lens-based art and sound seek to find an intimate connection to the “hidden witness” of the sacred and routine. He is drawn to the localized collection of the real and grounded, through field recording and images, and organizing and processing these elements into larger asynchronous forms, renditions, and collages.
